Monday marked the 10th anniversary of Strataca, the underground salt museum, opening its doors in Hutchinson.
On Tuesday, Mayor Jon Daveline read a proclamation at the Hutchinson City Council’s meeting recognizing the occasion and declaring this week Strataca Week. At noon, he again delivered the proclamation, but did so 650 feet below ground in the museum.
Strataca staff said the museum opened May 1, 2007, after years of discussion, planning, fundraising and work. The impetus for the museum was to create another tourism destination to draw people to Hutchinson, alongside the Cosmosphere. The idea was that multiple major attractions would bring people
