Captain Slick and his grimy band of pirates took control of the tall ship California on Sunday, forcing the crew of roughly 40 landlubbers — those not skilled at sea — to swab the deck or face walking the plank.
Aboard the vessel in the San Diego Bay, children as young as 5 were given tasks on the historic ship.
Of course, it was all make believe. The pirates were actors and the ship — built in 1984 as a replica of an 1847 vessel — was never in real danger. The event was part of Pirate Days, a two-day annual
