Our View: Fort Bragg at 100: A relationship that keeps growing

At the century mark, it’s still getting better. The relationship between Fayetteville, Cumberland County and Fort Bragg is tight and heading toward seamless. And everyone benefits from it.

What started as a small field-artillery training camp in 1918, many miles from the nearest civilian population center, has become this nation’s largest military post (by population), with 54,000 troops, many of them belonging to some of the most storied and elite military units in the world. That includes the 82nd Airborne Division, the Army Special Operations Command and the Joint Special Operations Command, which oversaw the tracking and takedown
