Guggenheim pulls controversial works amid outcry from activists

The Guggenheim Museum is removing three controversial artworks from an upcoming exhibition following a furious outcry by animal rights activists and “repeated threats of violence.”

One of the contentious pieces in the three-month show, “Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World,” is a seven-minute video of pit bulls facing off as they run at each other on non-motorized treadmills. In the live performance, which was staged by artists Peng Yu and Sun Yuan at a Beijing museum in 2003, the dogs are held back by harnesses so they can’t actually fight.
