GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Might the narwhal’s tusk have inspired tales of unicorns? Could mistakenly reassembled fossils be behind other mythological creatures like the griffins?
Some of the world’s most enduring mythological creatures will be the subject of Dragons, Unicorns and Mermaids, a new exhibit coming to the Grand Rapids Public Museum in November.
The exhibit, organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York, traces the natural and cultural roots of mythological creatures and features imaginative models as well as cast fossils and preserved specimens that may have inspired the myths.
