Arts News: Audio description training, free museum admission

The Lehigh Valley Arts Council, in partnership with Muhlenberg College Theater and Dance, will offer a two-day workshop “Audio Description for Theater” Nov. 4-5.

Audio description assists patrons who are blind or low-vision to know more about the visual elements of stage productions through live narration by describers. Patrons use headsets to hear the descriptions.

Mimi Smith, former executive director of VSA Pennsylvania, an organization on arts and disability, and her husband, Steve Smith, will introduce the class to the basic skills — observation, analysis and communication — necessary to audio-describe stage productions.
